Boo hoo.... boo hooo..... boo hooo....
truly.
Just got home from work.
This was one of my very first lace knits, (and perhaps my favorite) in an amazing alpaca lace weight yarn that was hand dyed by my friend Lisa.............. it used to be a "Swallowtail Shawl" ....
now it's just loose threads.
snagged it on a rough exposed screw in the back room while at work in the store tonight, about 15 minutes before I was done for the night.
It's beyond repair - (at least for my knitting skills level) the yarn was a magnificent hand dyed which I do not have any more of in this exact shade.
sigh.
one of the nice ladies at work saw me all welled up with teary eyes, and said, "well, you can fix it, just take a thread and hook those loose ends together...." (yeah, she's a nice person, but totally not a knitter) I thanked her for the kind thoughts and said nope, it doesn't quite work that way.
note to self: don't wear special stuff to work at the store anymore.
That stinks! I'm really sorry that happened.

Oh, Teyani, that's heartbreaking!

Don't you think it would be work taking it back one repeat and then redoing the edge? I do think it can be repaired. I wish I could do it for you.

you might try bringing it to your LYS to see if anyone there does repairs . . you might be surprised to find that someone does, or knows someone who does (i used to do it at the last shop i worked in).
honestly, it doesn't look like it's impossible to fix!

I feel your pain! Yes, pack it up and send it to Margene, the Yarn Harlot, or someone and beg for help!

Big Hugs!!! But it doesn't look that bad - I'll bet you can find someone to mend it for you. Even if the fix isn't perfect, it's just a small area.
My uncle came through his surgery just fine - thanks for your help! :-)

Ooooh, ouch! I am also of the opinion it can be fixed. First, try to find a lace expert. Second, take it back a few rows and reknit a border or two in a slightly different color. Contrast colored edge. Design feature!
