It's been awhile since I was totally enthralled by a knit. Suffice it to say, that I am head over heels for my newest sweater project. Some might call it 'the first blush of cast on' - other nay-sayers will scoff and say 'wait til she gets to sleeve island'. malarkey, I say (with a laugh) I am gonzo over the newest knit on my needles.
I realized, last thursday, that I did not have any big projects left on my needles (not counting my morning glories lace stole. that is awaiting the day when my hand is fully healed, and then my tension will be accurate for lace - and I will complete the last 25% of it).
Sooooo, I be-lined my way down to my lys, and shopped, (good little knitter that I am)... and brought home the object of my affection. The call of the cable has unleashed it's siren song once again in my heart.
There is just something about the rise of cable stitches over a sea of purls that makes me giddy. call me nuts, but it's true. I grin every time I finish a row, always amazed at what the simple back and forth dance of stitches produces on the face of my sweater. It's magic. I'm convinced of it.
In my never ending quest for a loose fitting cabled sweater, I scoured all their pattern books, and came across a project to sink in to.
Classic Elite #803 It's now Winter in the Andes
Cascade 220 Heathered Yarn
needle size 5 & 7
Even the salesperson at the lys declared "oh that will be a fun one!". I agree.
I wound a yarn ball; I swatched; I cast on. life is good. another sweater grows.
Life on the work front is going along well. Coldwater Creek continues to be a great deal of fun. They have asked me to become part of the permanent part time staff. I agreed, and thus my 7-day-work-weeks continue. I have grown accustomed to the rhythm, and even look forward to my days at the store very much. The staff there have become friends. We work hard, we laugh, we care about each other and work hard some more. I'm fortunate to be a part of such a nice group of people.
My counseling business is staying steady. I fill all my days there, and enjoy the work. And for some wonderful reason, the balance of my private office work and the very public retail work has succeeded in filling in my life. It is a great balance - and one I will continue for awhile.
Here on the west coast, my heather is in bloom, the crocus are popping up from the soil, they are predicting sun this week, and snow next weekend. The garden doesn't know what time of year it is (grin)
I think I shall go and dive into my cable sweater again. It's divine.
It sounds like your life is in such good balance - yay!! Oh, I need a knit to suck me in like that sweater. Enjoy!

I have been spinning your pencil roving all afternoon -- so I'm possessed by a yarn, and I know what you mean!

I am so jealous! Crocus already!!! We are still in the single digits here...
That sweater looks fabulous! I'm also romanced by cables - I just can't get enough of them!
Looks like you found a nice balance and rhythm to your life. Comforting!

Crocus? Heather? Sun? It sounds like another planet. ;-)

Lovely! I'm thinking something cabled needs to be my next big project.

I'm glad to hear that things are going well for you right now.
Your new cabled sweater is lovely! I agree that there is something about watching the progression of a cable as you knit that is incredibly satisfying.

That really is a sweater worth losing yourself in! The ladies in our Coldwater Creek (I say "our" it's really several towns away) always look like they are having a nice time. It sounds like things are going well!

A balanced life is a very good thing. So enviable.
I too love cables. there really is something very enjoyable about watching them pop out of the knitting and move this way and that.

It sounds (and looks) like you have chosen a winner! I'm glad that you are having a good time in the working part of your life too. But MUST you mention blooming heather and crocuses popping up? I sit here in eastern Canada looking at yet another snow storm and knowing when I go out, I will need to put on my snow pants so that my legs don't freeze off. Colour me jealous ;-)

Great sweater pattern! I like a bunch of those Classic Elite ones. I saw some at the LYS the other day but instead came home with Janet Szabo's "Aran Sweater Design" book. It's wonderful.
Your life sounds like it's humming along, although 7 days a week sounds a bit busy! Glad to hear things are going well.

After years of lace-only, I'm doing the second of two cabled scarves, and I hear you on the cables rising out of the purl stitches thing. There's something so solid and real and wonderful about it.
