My Mom, Harriet, collects Teddy Bears. Lots of them. They live all throughout Mom and Dad's house, and for the most part are well behaved and content to just read their books. However....... My wonderful Mom is very ill - and it has been serious. And now she's been gone too long, and the bears are on the march !
Ever since her fall last summer, she has been plagued by increased pain, stomach distress and a variety of other symptoms. So many MD visits and tests, and procedures that I cannot even recall them all (nor can she, poor dear).
The result has been that she had lost such a large amount of weight that they hospitalized her a week ago to run even more tests..... sigh... And as anyone knows who has been in a hospital recently, one does not "rest" there. (bless our hospital system, but serial tests, poking and prodding, photographing this and that, and BP and Temp taking every two hours does not allow for sleeping).
Finally on Mondy, she was operated on, and had several things done at once, and is now beginning the long slow road to recovery.
My oldest brother, Peter is there staying with Dad, (and hopefully will be able to stay longer once Mom gets home). Tuesday evening we were talking on the phone about getting Mom home, and trying to lift her spirits..... And the brain storm appeared that "The Bears" needed to get a bit out of hand (to encourage her recovery, since she needs to be there to monitor!)... Hence the following pictures.. documented here for posterity. (Great job in execution Peter!)
First the bears had a meeting (pictured above) - in which they plotted - Winthrop (the largest bear) is the ring leader no doubt. It was an excellent strategy planning session, and they began their escapades.
He began by looking at the map of Marco, trying to assess how to get to the hospital, and he said 'We have GOT to spring Harriet from that torture chamber'
They all looked out the window by the pool, longing to pause and take a swim, yet realizing they must try another door (since even piling on top of one another, they couldn't reach the handle of this one)
And then, the shenanigans began....
someone decided to tie this one to the lamp over Harriet's bed...
'Help, help it was a horrible heffalump who did it' squealed the bear (with a nod of sorry to A.A. Milnefor plagerizing his line)
Maybe we can CALL her... does anyone have fingers to dial??
hmmmrummph... I'm mrmmm, munching cookies first.. I never get to do this when she's home
Let's go for a ride on Papa's ducks... I wonder if they'd float in the pool???
Well, I don't know, but these swans sure float well !
I want some milk to go with my cookies........
Too bad Harriet's not here to fill up this Gimlet Punch bowl...
when is she coming home ?!
I dunno, but whatever was left in this glass from Papa last night sure was tasty. I think it was some scotch and perrier....
I think that I prefer the red wine... (hiccup..)
would one of you guys give me a push? I wanna see if I can touch the ceiling !
Let's see.... which hospital was that again? .... hmm... I wonder if I should answer a few of her emails first....
help - the wines have grabbed me, and won't let go!
Harriet.... come home!!
All right now, calling all bears... we're going to go for a ride. somebody come over here and give me a boost, and the handle will be no trouble at all.
I think I have figured out the directions to the hospital.
It's time for taking matters into our own hands - we have got to get her home now.
And buckle up !
We don't want to get a ticket on the way !
Too-too-doo--- and a Tally-ho.... we're free!!
Hang on Harriet, here we come!!
Your prayers and good thoughts for my wonderful Mom (and the bears in her Jeep enroute) are greatly appreciated.

What a cute idea! I hope it provides just the mood cheering that your mom needs. It must be hard for you to be so far away from her right now. I'm thinking of you, too.

What a wonderful story to cheer up your mom! I'm sorry to hear of her ordeal, but hoping that the surgery's done the trick and that she's doing much better now.
