(also known as the year in which I hope to buy a tripod and an updated camera.... reasons to follow..)
I've been knitting up a storm these days - and hope to have many more photos soon, yet in the attempt to raise this blog from the dead, I decided to just begin by posting photos of one completed project and then add the rest soon.
Last year, my dear friend Lisa (owner/genius creator behind Dicentra Designs) spun me a divine skein of merino/silk in her hand dyed colorway Miriel.
I pondered long and hard what to make of it, and even tried out several patterns before the perfect match occured. I just finished the "Abby Cowl" from Knitty. and I love it.
Fast knit on size 7 needles, one skein wonder (220 yards)
Shown here modeled by my dear friend Michele at our last knitting group (thanks M)
It can be worn loose around the neck, or up over your ears like a hood.
The lace pattern is simple to memorize. and will show off almost any hand spun skein.
There have been rumors that Lisa will be selling some of her hand spun at Madrona (if she isn't already on her website) - It would be a lovely treat for yourself, or a dear friend.. go ahead.. Spoil yourself ;-)
And as to the comment regarding hoping for a tripod.... here are a couple of "out takes" from the ever fearless fiberwizard.....
I hope you have a chuckle.. I sure did!
no, I am NOT as pale as a ghost.
and NO, I am NOT now in the possession of 5 chins.. (otherwise I wouldn't dare post the uber-ugly photo... ha ha ha)
and No, I have NOT gained 100 pounds (as this last startled-look photo appears.. in truth, I have not gained so much as even a pound! It's all just the product of not owning a tripod nor a camera that I can click a remote with..... ha ha ha...
and for those of you who have never met me, you would not recognize me from these photos... truly... (or at least that's what they tell me)
must. upgrade. equipment. soon.. (I'm living in dinosaur land for my technology right now!)

Pretty cowl! You should definitely treat yourself to some new photography equipment. It will make you love taking pictures and will inspire you to blog about all kinds of things. Look what happened to me when I took the plunge!

I chuckled at your pictures. I would not have known it was you. You do have your Dad;s firm chin but not THAT BIG. Get the camera. I do not want my beautiful daughter taking awful pictures of herself. Love to you, Mom

The cowl is gorgeous and I love the color. It takes a bit of time to learn the art of self-portraiture. You'll get the hang of it!

You should always listen to your mother. Get the camera!
The cowl is gorgeous!

too funny! at least you have a sense of humor and can laugh about it. maybe just a simple gorillapod can do the trick!

LOL at your pictures! My point-n-shoot has a self-portrait timer - you set it, and get a certain amount of time to get in place.
Random: I have a GorillaPod, which I like - it's small, and you'd have to set it on a shelf or something. But easy to carry in your purse with the camera, too.

Lovely cowl! Wish we were closer so we could do photo shoots.

Those are indeed some scary-ass pictures of you, but those are the best kind because then people say, "Wow, you're so much lovelier in real life!"
Great cowl. It looks deliciously soft.
