My past two weeks has been filled to the brim with fabulous art and connection with my daughter Erin -
She painted an original watercolor that is completely outside her normal subject matter, as a special request piece for a local group called "South of the Sound Community Farmland Trust". This wonderful organiztaion has dedicated itself to saving our farmlands from industrial takeover, and preserving the land as farms.
They held a Gala dinner, Art show, fund raiser yesterday to a sold out crowd of enthusiastic participants.
Literally ALL of the food, wine, beer, auction items, and art were produced by local people. And what a blast it was to attend!
And for me, many hours, outside of work were spent driving up to meet Erin in Tacoma to procure the original, then driving to and fro from the fabulous framer that she uses, and for delivery to the auction. And I can tell you that every moment spent was a bit of joy for me - to see my wonderful daughter participate as an adult in a juried / judged show!
And just because, I can no longer hold back the pride I am bursting with.... Erin's piece, "Monsieur" won The People's Choice Award ! and in the auction, it was sold for quite a lot of money - (the only piece of art that sold for more was painted by a nationally known artist!).. Yup.. Proud Mommy-monster here - and Erin is so proud to be a part of this fabulous fundraising group... such a good cause.
Erin's "normal" range of art subjects leans towards fantasy art (fairies, etc) as most of you all know - yet this piece needed to be related to "farming" and she was specifically asked to paint a rooster. The request for her entry came during Arts Walk (only 3 1/2 weeks ago) and Erin stepped up to the request and produced an amazing piece. I have only two photos of it (since there was no time for the normal process of scanning the original prior to framing) so here you are:
We titled it 'Monsieur", as the colors are direct from French Provence.(And please note that these are all from my old IPhone camera.. for better photos of the evening, hop over to Face Book to The Art of Erin Bohlmann - (and become a fan!)
Needless-to-say, I am proud beyond words... and a bonus of the evening, was that a local gallery owner asked Erin if she might contact her to hang her work (yippppppppeeeee..... small happy dance)
thanks for listening to the proud mama brag.
