Having completed the big blue blob, I turned my attention back to the sweet little cabled cowl and a simple cotton mock turtleneck I am making.
There is just something about knitting cables that makes me smile.
Music plays softly in the background. Sometimes I am singing along. Other times, on "resting" rows, my mind wanders about through my memories, pulling up familiar faces and moments of shared joy.
Last night, as I paused to admire the progression of the pattern, I began to realize that my life is rather like these small cables.
Some are close, and inter-linked tightly, woven side by side in daily moments - while others dance in a singular fashion through the design.
I have made so many friendships through the fiber arts. There are those whom I see often, and daily share small moments of my life; while others live so very far away - and our lives touch less frequently. Some are friends that I have never even met in person yet.
In spite of the distance between our daily lives, we are all part of the same beautiful design.

So well put. Cables are a reflection of our lives.

What a wonderful analogy! Oh, and the cables look good too. :-)

Mmmm ... cables. So beautiful, and yet so meaningful. Who knew? (Grin)

Those thoughts would make knitting cables especially joyful.

I'll never knit a cable again without thinking of this.
